BATON ROUGE - School leaders broke ground at the site of the new Lee High School Thursday morning.

The ceremony marked the start of construction for the $54.4 million campus, which will start with three academy buildings and a 60,000 square foot common building.

The common building will have a cafeteria, gym, fitness center, JROTC facility and multipurpose space, according to Keith Bromery with the EBR School System.

The campus is expected to be completed in January 2016. Until then, Lee High School students and staff have been moved to 4510 Bawell St.

News 2's Rebecca Buchanan will have more on how the new buildings will move the school district forward tonight starting at 4 p.m.
