GREENSBURG - State education officials revoked a license for an early learning center in St. Helena Parish Friday, terminating the center’s public funding.

According to the state Department of Education, the termination comes after complaints that employees at Blooming Faces Daycare in Greensburg took children, including infants, on a “walking excursion” on a busy highway with no sidewalk.

"The decisions made by the individuals at this center were irresponsible and put the lives of children at risk," said State Superintendent John White. "While we are grateful that no children were harmed during the outing, the negligence displayed by the adults in charge will not be tolerated."

White says the center has been cited for more than 140 deficiencies this year, including not obtaining parent’s permission for field trips, violating child to staff ratio, lack of supervision, and failure to properly train staff.

White said Blooming Faces Daycare is now ineligible to receive public funding through the Child Care Assistance Program. The center has 15 days to appeal the decision.

Any daycare that had their license revoked are ineligible to apply for a new license for two years.
