Grand Jury takes no action in nightclub shooting
BATON ROUGE - An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury took no action against a man accused of killing 27-year-old Octavia Jackson outside Club Shenanigans in June 2013.
District Attorney Hillar Moore said there were not enough votes by the grand jury Wednesday to charge 20-year-old Dennaryo Lathers in Jackson's death.
Lathers was booked April 17 on one count of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
Police say Jackson was shot multiple times in the upper torso with a handgun while sitting in the front passenger seat of a vehicle about 2 a.m. June 9 outside the club.
Moore says prosecutors can bring the case back before a grand jury at a later date.
