Grand jury could see weekend shooting
LAFAYETTE - The district attorney in Lafayette will decide if the case of a shooter of a kidnapping suspect will go to a grand jury.
Twenty-nine-year-old Scott Thomas of Leonville was shot Friday at a vacant house where kidnap victim Bethany Arceneaux was rescued.
Arceneaux had been stabbed multiple times. She is the mother of Thomas' child.
A spokesman for the Lafayette Parish Sheriff said it appears the shooter acted to save Arceneaux's life.
The shooter has not been identified.
Because a death is involved, the autopsy and other evidence must go to the district attorney for a decision on any other action.
Arceneaux was abducted from a daycare center Wednesday evening.
