BATON ROUGE - Flood victims can apply to rebuild their homes without having to relocate through the Shelter at Home disaster recovery program on Monday.

Julie Baxter from the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness came on 2une In Monday morning to announce the registration process of the federal program began.

People may be eligible for this program if work up to $15,000 can create a safe, secure, habitable place for the family to live in during the rebuilding process. The property must be single-family and owner-occupied. The Shelter at Home program will evaluate each applicant's house. It is not designed to fully repair the house. 

People have to apply for program separately from FEMA. If the homeowner is not eligible for the Shelter at Home program, there are other interim housing programs available.
