Gossip doesn't pay
COVINGTON, KENTUCKY- A gossip website and its operator defamed an ex NFL cheerleader and was ordered to pay $338,000 in damages. Jurors in the federal libel trial found posts on the website thedirty.com about Sarah Jones were false. They also found that the operator of the site, Nik Richie, acted with malice or reckless disregard in posting the anonymous submissions. One of the posts said Jones had sex with every player on the Cincinnati Bengals rosters and probably had two sexually transmitted diseases. She sued more than three-years ago and a trial in January led to a hung jury. Jones pleaded guilty to having sex with an underage former student last year but the posts were not related to that.
