Gordon: Current Pelicans squad deserves more time
METAIRIE - Eric Gordon says it would be premature to break up the team that Pelicans general manager Dell Demps and coach Monty Williams put together for this season.
The NBA trade deadline is Thursday. And with 30 games left, New Orleans (23-29) is 7 1/2 games out of the Western Conference's final playoff spot.
Yet the Pelicans wonder how much better they might be if not for injuries to high-scoring forward Ryan Anderson and starting point guard Jrue Holiday.
Anderson, out indefinitely with a herniated disk, has played 22 games. Holiday, out since Jan. 10 with a fractured right shin, has played 34.
Williams, whose team hosts New York on Wednesday night, says he's been frustrated by injuries that have kept the Pelicans from having the team they envisioned.
