Two Republican Senators back an unlikely candidate in a congressional race in California, a Democrat. Rep. Howard Berman got the endorsement of Sens. john McCain and Lindsey Graham along with independent Joe Lieberman. Berman is the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The three backers are also leading lawmakers on national security. Berman faces a tough contest in November against fellow Democrat Brad Sherman.
