LIVINGSTON - A goose is recovering after taking what appears to be a blow dart to the head.

The bird was found wandering around the City Park Lake about two weeks ago by a good Samaritan. The man brought the goose to get some help at Wings of Hope in Livingston Parish, a place for injured and orphaned wildlife native to Louisiana.

Caregiver Leslie Lattimore says the bird is very lucky.

"I don't know whether they were shooting at something else, we don't even know what this is, but it ended up in his head," said Lattimore.

The dart, about three inches in length, fell out of the bird when it was brought in for help. The goose was dehydrated and needed antibiotics to heal the infection in his head. Lattimore says he's recovering well.

"We're just kind of waiting for him to see if he's going to fend for himself right now."

The LSU School Of Veterinary Medicine says this isn't the first report like this. A few weeks ago, a goose was brought in with a blow dart lodged in it's head. That bird had to be euthanized.

The hope is for the bird to make a full recovery and be able to return home to City Park Lake with the rest of the geese.

"We're hoping that he'll fly away and have a happy home and live forever," said Lattimore.

In January, the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine took in and treated a goose with an arrow lodged in its side. Veterinarians said the arrow had missed all its vital organs.
