Gonzales to consider additional tax for mall
GONZALES - The Gonzales City Council is considering a proposal by Tanger Outlet Mall to add an additional one percent sales tax to all purchases made at stores within the mall.
Attorney David Wolf, who brought the preliminary proposal to the council on Monday, says the retail center hopes to use the funds to expand retail space on its grounds, up to about $10 million.
According to the plan, the tax would be collected through the creation of the Tanger Mall Economic Development District.
Wolf says part of the money generated by the tax would reimburse the district for the new buildings, and the remaining funds would go to the city to be used for infrastructure improvements.
