CONVENT, La. - A Gonzales teen is dead after a crash on LA 44 around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Louisiana State Police Tpr. Jared Sandifer.

Sandifer says 19-year-old Sidney Lomas of Gonzales was driving a 1998 Saturn SC on LA 44 north of LA 3214 in St. James Parish when the vehicle crossed over the centerline and struck a utility pole.

Lomas was seriously injured and was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales where he later died, according to Sandifer.

Speeding is considered to be a factor in the crash. This was the second fatal crash in this area in the past two days, according to Sandifer.
