Gonzales man killed in early morning crash
GRAMERCY - State Police are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a Gonzales man early this morning.
Troopers say Bobby Garantine, 53, was driving southbound on US Hwy 61 near Blind River in St. James Parish around 2:30 a.m. when he crossed the center median. Investigators believe he over-corrected to return to his lane and lost control of his car. It ran off the right side of the road, hit a tree and was partially submerged in water.
Garantine was rushed to St. James Hospital in Lutcher where he died. Troopers say he wasn't wearing his seat-belt at the time of the accident and are waiting for the results of a toxicology report to determine if he was impaired.
