GONZALES – Deputies in Ascension Parish charged a man with kidnapping and damage to property after they say he stole money from a home and kidnapped the owner.

According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Austin Roddy refused to leave a Gonzales home Wednesday night. Deputies say Roddy asked the homeowner for money, and when they refused, Roddy damaged several items in the home.

Investigators say Roddy then took “an undisclosed amount of cash” and forced the homeowner to drive him to a location where he was told to get out.

Roddy was located at a home on Garcon Road in Gonzales Thursday morning. He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail for second-degree kidnapping, felony theft, criminal damage to property, and entry in places after being forbidden.
