GONZLAES, La. - A group hoping to turn a 340-acre cattle farm along Interstate 10 and Louisiana Highway 44 into a mixed-use development must provide city officials with more information before it will be permitted to proceed.

The city's Planning and Zoning Commission tabled a rezoning request this past week from the estate of the late Merritt P. Evans Jr. and Ruth Walker Evans that is important to the development.

The Advocate reports that commission members want more specifics about the proposal.

The decision to put off approval came after more than an hour of discussion, in which about a dozen people spoke in opposition of the rezoning request.

The property was annexed into the city in March 2012 and has the city's most-restrictive residential zoning designation.
