GONZALES- The city council will have a new look in 2015 and two men are hoping it will feature their faces in the seats vacated by Gary Lacombe and Timothy Vessel.

Neal Bourque and Harold Stewart have stepped up to run for the seats that were emptied after Lacombe quit and Vessel was recalled during an election in December.

Both men were part of the campaign that helped unseat the two former councilmen, but wanted a chance to be on the ballot so voters could pick their new leaders.

"My vision for the city is job opportunities and to ensure the citizens of Gonzales that they are protected, protected by the leadership of the city," said Stewart, a 30 year business owner, father and grandfather.

"My goal is to properly promote public safety, with concerns to the police department, fire department and EMS and to ensure that Gonzales will always be open for business," said Bourque, a one time real estate expert and family man.

Bourque never intended to run for office, but after the recall campaign he didn't want his city to fall back into a slump.

"Unfortunately some people get in office and they forget why they're there and who they're working for and they can rest assured that we will always know we work for the people of Gonzales and we'll try to do our best for the city itself," said Bourque.

"This is a great city, it's not just a great city but it's on the rise of not just becoming a great city but a better city and I think with the proper leadership as a councilman, we can do that," said Stewart.

Residents can vote for both men, since they're running for two separate seats. The election will be held on March 28th.
