The Lafayette City-Parish Council will once again take up a proposal to ban go-cups and other open
alcoholic containers, two weeks after defeating the measure in a 5-4 vote.
No major changes have been made to the ordinance, which would prohibit such containers in downtown Lafayette and two other entertainment areas.
Patrons at certain events, including Mardi Gras, Festival International and several other events would be exempt from any penalties.
Councilman Don Bertrand tells The Advertiser that he asked for the ordinance to come back up for a vote at Tuesday's council meeting after hearing from business owners who were disappointed when it was defeated.
Police Chief Jim Craft supported the open alcohol container ban saying it would be another tool to help police control large crowds, especially on weekends.
