Getting ready for the hurricane sales tax holiday weekend
BATON ROUGE - The state sales tax holiday will save shoppers money on hurricane preparedness items.
Hurricane season starts June 1. The state sales tax will not apply to certain supplies including batteries, phone chargers, carbon monoxide detectors and tarps May 24-25. Shoppers can go out early to pick out their hurricane prep items and put them on layaway until the holiday begins on Saturday. Goodwood Hardware gives advice on what tax free items will help keep you safe.
"One of the things you're going to be looking for is a weather radio, this is specific to emergencies. They send you notifications over the emergency broadband, and it gives you alerts, alerting you to closures on roads and flash flooding and stuff like that," explained Steven Reed with Goodwood Hardware.
