BATON ROUGE - File your state income tax return online, and you could have money in your pocket in days instead of weeks.
If you file by paper, the Louisiana Department of Revenue estimates it will take between 12 and 16 weeks to get your return. E-file on the state's website here, and you could get your return in ten business days, according to Byron Henderson with the Department of Revenue.
Each year, the state gets 3 million returns. 800,000 of those are individual tax returns. Each one done with paper and pencil costs the state $1.50.
Henderson said the 47 percent of taxpayers who file online save the state millions of dollars each year.
"It's the wave of the future," Henderson said.
But Henderson knows there will always be folks faithful to the traditional way of filing taxes.
