Get rid of hazardous materials in Ascension Parish

GONZALES - Ascension Parish is hosting the Household Hazardous Material Collection day this weekend.

From 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. Saturday, you can drop your hazardous materials off at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center. All you need is some form of identification that proves you are a resident of Ascension Parish.

Items that will be accepted include: automobile tires, car and golf cart batteries, cell phones and batteries, electronic equipment, fluorescent bulbs, gasoline, oil, antifreeze, home and garden chemicals, household batteries, ink and toner cartridges, and more.

Last year, 47 tons of hazardous materials were hauled away.
