Georgia loses WR Mitchell to knee injury
ATLANTA - Georgia receiver Malcolm Mitchell will miss the remainder of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Saturday's loss at Clemson.
Coach Mark Richt said Sunday Mitchell will have season-ending surgery.
Mitchell, the leading returning receiver for the No. 5 Bulldogs, hurt his knee when jumping up to celebrate with a teammate following Todd Gurley's 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. No. 8 Clemson beat Georgia 38-35.
Richt says Mitchell may have been jumping up to chest-bump a teammate "and landed in a bad way."
Georgia opens its Southeastern Conference schedule against No. 6 South Carolina on Saturday.
