Geese and Lincoln don't get along
WASHINGTON- Border collies may be chasing Canada Geese from the Lincoln Memorial and other places on the National Mall if the The National Park Service has its way.
The agency now wants public comments on a plan to use the dogs to herd the large and growing population of geese and chase them off. Park leaders complain of the excessive droppings the geese are leaving; two to three-pounds per geese per day.
The droppings damage pipes and filters used in the reflecting pool and they create a public health hazard.
The park service say the dogs are natural at herding and no geese would be harmed.
