An alligator found in a corn field in Burr Oak, Michigan was beaten to death by a man who says it charged him and he was afraid it would attack children. The beating was called a "little extreme" by an animal control officer who said the gator could have been relocated to a private sanctuary about 30 miles away. Jeff Adamski says the three-foot long gator darted toward him last week as he picked sweet corn and he didn't want to take a chance a child could get hurt. Alligators are showing up far north of their traditional habitats with one spotted in Chicago and others in New York City and Boston.
