Gas rising for extended weekend
GONZALES- The price of gas in Ascension Parish, and every parish in Louisiana, is rising.
Here, gas was about $3.40 Thursday. That was a one-cent increase overnight. Gonzales shared the same average as Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, and Hammond.
The national average was about $3.56.
The increase from Wednesday to Thursday was the biggest overnight increase in six weeks.
Gas is starting to track the rising price of oil, which reached a two-year high this week on fears of supply disruptions in the Middle East. During August, oil has risen 5 percent on worries about escalating violence in Egypt and the possibility of a U.S. strike against Syria.
A Triple-A spokesman says it's "increasingly likely that pump prices will rise in the coming days" because of concerns about Syria and possible consequences elsewhere in the Middle East.
But, gas is nearly 25 cents lower than this time last year.
