Gas conservation urged due to cold
ZACHARY - City officials in Zachary urged residents to conserve gas usage in their homes during record-breaking cold weather in southern Louisiana.
Mayor David Amrhein said the high gas demand led to low pressure in gas pipelines throughout Zachary. To conserve gas, he asked residents to lower their thermostats to 65 degrees for the next couple of days.
City officials also asked residents to check on their elderly or disabled neighbors and family members, who may be more heavily impacted by the cold.
People who need assistance with cold weather matters can contact the Department of Public Works at (225) 654-0201.
