BATON ROUGE - Representative Garret Graves gave a tour to U.S. congress members Saturday of the flood damaged Sherwood Forest area of Baton Rouge.

Graves told WBRZ News 2 that he wants the representatives to talk to the homeowners and businesses owners to make sure the state gets the recovery assistance needed.

The members were part of the U.S. House Committee of Appropriation that decides funding for certain federal projects. Tagging along with Graves was Representative Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska who was born and raised in Baton Rouge.

"This was the neighborhood of a lot of my friends," Fortenberry said. "It is unbelievable what I'm seeing here. To think that Sherwood Forest would be devastated by an event like this."

Graves and fellow U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany wants Congress to pass a bill to provide more federal disaster assistance to Louisiana flood victims.

The group also toured the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales where hundreds of residents took shelter after the floods. The group also examined the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center located in the building.

The representatives got a chance to see the process flood victims must undergo to receive assistance from FEMA or the Small Business Administration.

Graves is hoping the tour will convince his colleagues that South Louisiana needs more money to recover from the worst flooding to ever strike the area.
