Garbage rates to increase in Denham Springs
DENHAM SPRINGS - The Denham Springs City Council has approved a small increase in monthly household rates for city garbage and recycling services.
The rates will rise 34 cents from $18 per month to $18.34 per month and kick in Sunday.
Allied Waste Services of Baton Rouge holds a contract with Denham Springs for the waste and recycling work.
Mayor Jimmy Durbin says Allied Waste Services and Denham Springs officials agreed two years ago to reduce the monthly rate from $18.49 to $18.
A manager for Allied Waste Services, Karla Swacker, said company officials calculated a consumer price index increase of 1.91 percent, or 34 cents, for the rates.
