BATON ROUGE - The 2012 LSU football season kicks off tonight as LSU plays host to North Texas. Game time is set for 6:02 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. The Tigers enter the season as the top-ranked team in the country in the USA Today / Coaches' poll and are ranked third in the Associated Press top 25.
Tonight marks the first start for LSU junior quarterback Zach Mettenberger, who is expected to take the Tigers' offensive attack to new heights. Receivers Odell Beckham, Jarvis Landry and Russell Shepard will be the go-to-targets, while running backs Alfred Blue and Kenny Hilliard will take the majority of the carries against the Mean Green.
LSU coach Les Miles is 7-0 in season-opening games with the Tigers, who also boast a 37-game win streak in regular season non-conference match-ups. LSU has also won its past 17 home games, with the last loss in Tiger Stadium coming in 2009.
