Funeral set for Monday in St. Amant for slain police officer
ST. AMANT- Funeral services and burial will happen Sunday and Monday in Ascension Parish for a local man who moved away, became a cop in Shreveport and was murdered on duty Wednesday night.
Thomas LaValley, 29, was shot multiple times responding to a suspicious person in a house. After an 18-hour search in Shreveport and alerts in Jackson, Mississippi, Grover Cannon, 27, was arrested and charged with LaValley's murder. He was apprehended a few blocks from where the shooting happened.
Friends and family will gather for visitation at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales Sunday night from 5 to 9 then again Monday morning from 8:30 to 10:30. There will be a mass of Christian burial at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Highway 429 in St. Amant Monday at 11 a.m. LaValley will be buried at the church cemetery.
A funeral process Monday will take Airline Highway south from the funeral home to Highway 429/Weber City Road to the church.
