Funeral arrangements set for beaten, bitten child
BATON ROUGE - A funeral home donated their services to help the family of an 8-year-old boy beaten to death in Baton Rouge.
A visitation for Xzayvion Riley is scheduled for Saturday, June 23 at 1 p.m. at Wilson-Wooddale Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m.
The East Baton Rouge coroner's office said the family requested a pauper's burial for Riley, and the funeral home offered to donate their services for a full funeral. Riley will be cremated after, which the family also requested.
The child's parents, Lavaughn Riley and Michael Robertson, are charged with first-degree murder and cruelty to a juvenile with his death. A judge denied their bail earlier this week.
Riley died after he was taken to the hospital on June 12 when his parents reported his heart had stopped. Once there, doctors said they found dozens of bruises on his body, as well as at least one human bite mark.
Investigators said Lavaughn Riley admitted to beating the boy, and his sibling also said that Robertson would beat him and bite him as a form of punishment. Robertson denied having anything to do with Riley's injuries, according to deputies.
