Funeral arrangements released for slain officer
CHARENTON - Authorities in St. Mary Parish released funeral details this afternoon for the police officer killed during a shootout this weekend.
Investigators said Sgt. Rick Riggenbach, 52, with Chitimacha Police died during a confrontation Saturday with Wilbert Thibodeaux, who police said killed another man and set his mobile home on fire before confronting authorities called to the scene. Two other deputies were injured in the shootout which followed.
Funeral arrangements are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in Morgan City. Visitation will be Wednesday night from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Twin City Funeral Home, then again Thursday morning from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Crossing Place Church in Franklin.
The funeral service will follow visitation at the church, with burial after that at the Morgan City Cemetery & Mausoleum.
Riggenbach was a 15-year veteran of law enforcement, with 10 years at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office before joining the Chitimacha Police. Thibodeaux is being held in Iberville Parish.
