Fundraiser to be held tonight for Talajia Dorsey
LUTCHER - A fundraiser is being held today in St. James Parish to honor and remember a missing 12-year-old girl whose body was found on Sunday.
The event is intended to be a celebration of Talajia Dorsey's life with food, drinks and music. The entire community is expected to turn out in support of the Dorsey family.
The event was funded by donations and all proceeds from the fundraiser, estimated at $10,000 to $15,000, will go to the family of the slain 12-year-old.
St. James deputies found the body of Talaija Dorsey after six days of searching. The girl's mother's fiance was arrested and charged with her murder.
People turned out as early as 5:30 this morning to get the food and entertainment prepped ahead of the event with the Dorsey family arriving in the afternoon. The benefit will last until 10 p.m. Thursday.
A local funeral home has also agreed to cover all the costs for Dorsey's funeral.
We will have more about the fundraiser on News 2 at 5.
