NEW ORLEANS- State officials say a fund set up for fishermen struggling since the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is handing out $500 checks to 250 fishermen for Christmas.

The friends of the fishermen fund was set up in July and has raised more than $127,000 through corporate and individual donors.
