Fruit of the Loom cutting jobs in Vidalia
VIDALIA - The Fruit of the Loom facility in Vidalia will cut more than half its workforce in March.
Nearly 150 of 260 employees will be laid off permanently at the Vidalia distribution center that opened in 1995.
Vidalia Apparel is housed in a 1-million-square-foot building in the Vidalia Industrial Park and distributes Fruit of the Loom's casual wear and intimate apparel product lines.
It's the largest employer in the town.
Concordia Parish Economic Director Heather Malone says she got a call from Mayor Hyram Copeland Tuesday morning informing her of the announcement.
Malone said conversations with Fruit of the Loom officials were positive, and there was no indication of a decline in the plant's operations.
