Freezing temps creep into the area
BATON ROUGE - A hard freeze warning is in effect for parts of our area until 9 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, with temperatures possibly dropping into the mid-twenties overnight.
That type of weather can wreak havoc on pipes and plants. Sunshine Plumbing recommends wrapping some type of insulation that you can buy at any hardware store around every pipe outside your home to reduce the risk of a pipe freezing and bursting, which can cost thousands of dollars to repair.
"They take it for granted cause most time it does not get cold enough so they don't think about it. We only get a good freeze every three to four years so it slips out of everyone's minds," said Dirk Payne.
Another concern for homeowners is the potential freezing of their flowers plants and trees. Louisiana Nursery recommends watering your plants the night before the cold front rolls in and covering up everything around your house.
