ST. FRANCISVILLE - A grand jury in West Feliciana Parish has indicted 71-year-old Herman Wallace again in the 1972 slaying of an Angola prison guard.

Wallace, who is dying of liver cancer, was ordered released Tuesday by a federal judge, who found that women had been excluded by Wallace's first grand jury.

District Attorney Sam D'Aquilla said he was "kind of stunned" by the judge's decision to release Wallace, who was convicted of the murder of the guard.

He called the grand jury together today and it issued the indictment this afternoon.

Wallace was in Angola serving a 50-year sentence for another murder and an armed robbery when Security Officer Brent Miller was stabbed to death at the prison.
