Free bus rides for "Dump the Pump" day
BATON ROUGE - To celebrate National "Dump the Pump" Day Thursday, people in the Baton Rouge area got the chance to ride CATS buses for free.
The special day is an effort associated with the American Public Transportation Association to encourage people to save money by riding public transportation.
People who turned out for the event were eager to take advantage of the complimentary fare.
"When we got on the bus, the lady said it was free so we're taking care of all of our business for free," said Jacqueline Wallace, a first time bus rider.
While the event was angled toward highlighting the environmental and economic benefits of public transit, there were some who said the Capital Area Transit System could use some improvement.
"I think that they should try to expand the busses. Maybe have a bus here or there that maybe can get them almost to Gonzales," said Raymond Vaughn, an frequent CATS passenger.
