BATON ROUGE - The LSU Tigers have a chance to do something in 2012 that no team has done before, by potentially having a Bednarik Award winner three consecutive years.

Junior cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, who won the award last season, joins junior safety Eric Reid and junior defensive ends Sam Montgomery and Barkevious Mingo on the preseason watch list released Monday by the Maxwell Football Club.

Cornerback Patrick Peterson won the Bednarik Award in 2010, which goes to the most outstanding defensive player in the country.
