BATON ROUGE - The current version of Four Loko will only be in stores for two more weeks, according to officials.
The manufacturer says it will only sell a caffeine free version of the drink starting December 13th, after public outcry and scrutiny from officials in several states.
The drink has high levels of caffeine and alcohol and is blamed for several health problems involving college students. Hundreds of stores carry Four Loko in the Baton Rouge area, and reaction locally is mixed.
The Louisiana State Police said their troopers often tell high school students about the dangers from this type of product during school visits.
But some LSU students say any type of ban or change is pointless, since energy drinks and alcohol available now can make a similar cocktail because the individual ingredients are all legal.
