Four apply for last Louisiana casino license
State gambling regulators say four groups have applied for Louisiana's 15th and final riverboat casino license allowed by law.
Three of the companies would put the boat in Lake Charles, while the fourth proposes a second casino for the New Orleans suburb of Harvey.
The Louisiana Gaming Control Board put the license up for applicants after it was returned to the state in April by Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. Pinnacle had planned to use the license for its second casino-resort complex in Lake Charles - but canceled the plan.
There are currently 13 riverboat casinos operating in Louisiana: five in Shreveport-Bossier City, three in Lake Charles, two in the New Orleans area, two in Baton Rouge and one near Morgan City. Pinnacle is developing a 14th project in Baton Rouge.
Thursday was the deadline for applications.
