The Greater New Orleans Foundation has used its Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund to benefit an organization working with fishermen affected by the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The foundation says the Seedco Financial Southeast Louisiana Fisheries Assistance Center in Belle Chasse will receive $50,000.
Seedco has helped more than 350 people hurt by the oil spill from the BP well. And, the agency says, more look for help everyday.
The center was founded after Hurricane Katrina to provide commercial fishermen with business and financial assistance.
It is estimated that there are 6,400 licensed commercial fishermen in the parishes that could be affected by the spill.
