Foster children adoptions rise for 4th year
BATON ROUGE - Officials say the number of families adopting Louisiana foster children through the state has increased for a fourth consecutive year.
The state Department of Children and Family Services said Thursday that more than 500 families adopted 733 foster children between Oct. 1, 2012, and Sept. 30, 2013.
Gov. Bobby Jindal declared November Adoption Awareness Month in the state. Several dozen families that adopted foster children were honored during a gathering at the Governor's Mansion on Thursday.
The department says more than 3,900 children are currently in foster care.
