Forums to focus on Baton Rouge school safety
BATON ROUGE - The East Baton Rouge Parish school system scheduled four community forums next week to talk to parents about school safety and get feedback on how to make schools safer.
The forums are scheduled for Monday through Wednesday at four schools. Baton Rouge Magnet High is hosting Monday, Woodlawn Elementary on Tuesday and Scotlandville Magnet High and Northeast Elementary on Wednesday.
Herman Brister Sr., associate superintendent for instructional support services, said since the Sandy Hook shootings in Connecticut, the parish school system has instituted a text alert system so that the superintendent and top administrators can try to stay ahead of incident information that gets out by students who post it online through smartphones.
