Fort found guilty of Gibbs slaying
BATON ROUGE - A jury found a Zachary man guilty in the 2012 shooting death of former Southern University running back Silas Gibbs.
Walter Jerome Fort, 24, was found guilty of second-degree murder. Sentencing was scheduled for March 7, 2014.
Investigators said Fort shot and killed Gibbs in March 2012. Gibbs was found murdered in a car near near the Chippewa exit of I-110 South.
Fort was later caught at a bus stop at Texas Southern University in Houston.
