Former State Fire Marshal employee arrested after deadly fire
BATON ROUGE- A former state fire marshal investigator turned himself in to authorities, and was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges he filed false public records.
Nunzio Marchiafava claimed to have done an inspection on a lodging facility in Grand Isle last year. But, investigators said he never performed the inspection, and that he lied about doing it.
Months after Marchiafava reported to have inspected the facility, it caught on fire and two people died.
After the fire, a complaint was filed with the State Inspector General's Office. Eventually, Marchiafava was accused of breaking the law and charges were filed.
