AMITE - A former secretary and clek pleaded guilty today in Amite to embezzling nearly $1.9 million from a juvenile justice program.
Brenda Bickford, 61, of Hammond pleaded guilty to theft and fraud charges in district court. She admitted she took the money from the Florida Parishes Juvenile Justice Commission between 2001 and 2010.
BIckford served as the commission's recording secretary for 16 years before her arrest last year.
Judge Jerome Winsburg scheduled sentencing for September 7.
