Former officer charged with carnal knowledge of juvenile
PLAQUEMINE - Investigators charged a former Plaquemine police officer with carnal knowledge of a juvenile Friday.
Deputies accused 18-year-old Chance Martinez of having sex with a 15-year-old girl when he was 17. Sheriff Brett Stassi said the incident happened when Martinez and the girl were classmates in high school.
Carnal knowledge laws in Louisiana require a greater than two-year difference between the ages of two people under 18, which deputies said was the case here.
Stassi said Martinez resigned from his position during the investigation.
