BATON ROUGE – Governor John Bel Edwards appointed former Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives Charles "Charlie" Dewitt, Jr. to serve on the Louisiana Public Service Commission for District 4.

Dewitt will take over the vacancy as a result of the passing of Clyde Holloway.

Dewitt's appointment runs from Oct. 24 to Dec. 31. An election for the seat was already scheduled for Nov. 8.

"Charlie served as Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives during a Republican administration," Edwards said. "He prided himself on his ability to reach across the aisle to get things done for the state of Louisiana, and that's the kind of approach he'll take in these two months on the PSC," Edwards said.

District 4 of the Public Service Commission includes Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Catahoula, Evangeline, Grant, Iberia, Jefferson Davis, LaSalle, Rapides, Sabine, St. Landry Vermilion, Vernon Parishes.
