Former Jindal cabinet secretary running for PSC

BATON ROUGE - Gov. Bobby Jindal's former natural resources secretary, who resigned from his cabinet position this week, is running for the Public Service Commission, the state's utility regulatory board.

Scott Angelle, a Republican from Breaux Bridge, announced his candidacy Thursday, a day after he left the Department of Natural Resources. The move confirms months of speculation that Angelle was eyeing the race.

Angelle joins two other GOP contenders for the vacant seat: Rep. Erich Ponti, a Baton Rouge contractor, and Ed Roy, a private investigator and former TV and radio weatherman.

The men are vying for the PSC seat left open by retiring commissioner Jimmy Field. The district covers much of south central Louisiana. The election is Nov. 6.
