The Lafourche Sheriff's Office is being sued by a man beaten up in jail last year claiming the jail's overcrowding and inability to segregate violent and nonviolent offenders caused the beating.
Sheriff Craig Weber says the conditions Shane LeBlanc claimed in his lawsuit are well-known facts, but that does not mean the agency is liable for LeBlanc's injuries.
The sheriff says the jail meets minimum state requirements and has no duty to prevent fights from occurring that it has no warning about.
