Former fire marshal laid to rest
BATON ROUGE - Firefighters and community members honored a former state fire marshal who passed away with a funeral procession through Baton Rouge Monday.
Carrol Herring passed away at a Baton Rouge hospital on Dec. 24. He was 86.
Herring previously served as fire marshal from 1981 to 1990. Before that he worked 15 years in the Baton Rouge Fire Department and 18 years with the LSU Firemen Training Program, serving as director for 15 of those years. The institute was named in his honor last year.
State Fire Marshal Butch Browning said Herring helped transform Louisiana's fire service, and was a man of strong beliefs and unwavering commitment.
